In this short guide, I’ll walk you through the process of acquiring crypto tokens for testing blockchain applications on Ethereum Sepolia, Polygon Mumbai, and Binance Smart Chain Testnet.
Why Do We Need Test Tokens?
Blockchain developers and testers require tokens for interaction and testing smart contracts, decentralized applications (DApps), and other blockchain projects.
Testing on the mainnet or production networks can be costly and risky. Instead, we turn to specialized services known as faucets, which provide test tokens free of charge for our development and testing needs.
Supported Tokens
Faucets offer two types of supported tokens: native coins (e.g., ETH, TBNB, MATIC) and ERC20 tokens (e.g., BUSD, USDC), depending on the specific faucet service. These tokens are exclusively for testing and development purposes and cannot be used on mainnets.
Let’s dive in and obtain our first set of test tokens.
Where to get your wallet address?
Your wallet address is available inside your crypto wallet extension.
This is how it looks like using MetaMask wallet. Just click on the highlighted area and your wallet address will be copied into your clipboard.
Ethereum Sepolia
Visit https://sepoliafaucet.com/ and create an account on Alchemy.
Confirm your account to enter your wallet address in the text field. Click “Send Me ETH” and patiently wait for a few seconds.
Check your crypto wallet to see your updated balance.
Binance Smart Chain Testnet
For BSC Testnet, navigate to https://testnet.binance.org/faucet-smart. Complete the captcha to have access to their platform.
Enter your wallet address and choose between BNB or other supported tokens from the dropdown menu.
In one minute you will receive your test tokens. That’s it.
Polygon Mumbai
If you require MATIC tokens on the Polygon Mumbai network, visit https://faucet.polygon.technology/.
Polygon has a unique verification process: you must connect your Discord account (you have to join their Discord server first: https://discord.com/invite/0xPolygon) for verification purposes.
Click “Connect Discord to get tokens”.
Authorize the connection.
Fill out the token request form.
Confirm your request.
Conclusion
These methods enable you to acquire test tokens easily, allowing you to begin testing your blockchain applications using multiple blockchain networks. Stay tuned for more blockchain articles and updates!
